Led Zeppelin
By Mark Flegg
For the second year, I will perform with the orchestra backing up the official tour band of Led Zeppelin to present The Music of Led Zeppelin: A Rock Symphony. This concert will be held at DTE Energy Music Theater (or, as all of us still call it, Pine Knob). The band they put together for this last year was outstanding. They’re not the original Led Zeppelin members, but they sound great.. possibly better than the original guys would at this point. If you love the music of Led Zeppelin, you’ll really enjoy this concert event! From the concert promoter:
A stunning light show sets the stage for this presentation of Led Zeppelin’s classic hits in an exciting concert, which brings together the stirring elegance of an orchestra and the power and fury of rock’s most legendary band. The event will include a 50-piece orchestra, a full rock band, state of the art concert lighting and the legendary music of Led Zeppelin. The Music of Led Zeppelin is two hours of 18 Led Zeppelin songs including such hits as “Stairway to Heaven and “Black Dog. The concert, conducted and arranged by Brent Havens, bridges the gap between rock n’ roll and classical music with an orchestra arranged to enhance Zeppelin’s original material. Show producer Rob Cross originally constructed the show for the Virginia Symphony, but with its success, the show has hit the road, playing in venues all over the United States.
Please note: This concert will be very, very loud. I remember feeling my internal organs move around every time the drummer hit the kick drum last year. Bring earplugs if you’re sensitive and/or care about your hearing. Tickets are $32.50 for pavillion and $10 for lawn seats, and can be purchased from the Palace Sports & Entertainment website.
